I need some suggestions on how to experiment with different themes without having to upload the entire site again.

I want to change the look of my website and thus experiment with different themes. However, if I try one theme, decide I don't like it, then want to go back to my original theme ... I find that I need to upload the entire site again (if I make an update) because ezimerchant gets the impression that all the pages have been changed. Is there another way around this?

Suggestions, please...

To avoid your experiment overriding your main site do the following:
1) Create a new site and register it as a trial. Record the trial registration number.
2) Make a backup of your main site data and then restore it. This will create a copy of your data in the site list in ezimerchant.
3) Open the copy, click on Web site Registration and choose the option "Change Registration Number".
4) Change the registration number to the number created in step 1.

By taking these steps, the copy of your data used for experimentation will generate into a different directory.
