I am sorry if this is in the wrong spot, I cannot find just a general questions area so this seemed the best place to put my query.

I have just received an email that a new version of Ezi Merchant is available and to upgrade, which i then came to the site and downlaoded the link it all went good until it keeps getting to the installation window and telling me that it cannot find any versions of ezi merhcant on my computer and that i need to install ezi merchant before i do the upgrade.

I have derfinately got the software on my computer, is this something im doing wrong, i have never had this issue before?

I have got a copy of the ezi merhcant files in my "Programs list" and due to accidentally copying it to my desktop i know have a full copy of the files on my desktop......so its definately installed in my computer and i can go and open the older version and use it, so without fail its definately there!

Any help on this one?? :)

Hi

When the installation of ezimerchant starts the first thing it does is look in your computers registry and checks a string value called 'appdir' (short for Application Directory). This appdir tells the installer where to install the updated files.

If this registry entry is missing the installer has no idea where ezimerchant is installed so it fails.

To correct this you will need to create a registry string value in the following location:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\On Technology\ezimerchantpro\settings
The string value should be called 'appdir'
The value data should be the exact path to your ezimerchant executable.

If you have ezimerchant installed in the default location it would be: c:\program files\ezimercpro

But it sounds like you have it installed elsewhere. Check its location and then create the string value.

The installer will then complete.
If you find that ezimerchant hasnt updated after doing this its because you set the appdir incorrectly.

If you have trouble I would reccommend calling the ezimerchant support team - they will help you set the appdir over the phone.

Thankyou....... I have no idea what you just said so it looks like I will make a phonecall to the support team!!!

Sorry i am utterly useless when it comes to computer terms i am one of those people who needs to be spoken to like im four lol.....
registry string value? hhehe

DEfinately this sounds like one for the experts.

I have double checked but and I definately have got the ezimerchant in the program files so I am at a real loss to undertsand why it wont just work!

Its very very frustrating for me because I want to learn to do all this stuff myself, but when you put up your reply it amakes me realise that i am so far off knowing how to run my own website it is scary to me.

I will sit here and frustrate myself for hours on end and waste a whole day trying to undertsand something, then have to have the tech guys do it for me anyway makes me feel very dumb for wasting the time, but i really wish I knew how to do all this stuff myself.

is this something most people would understand? Are most Eziemerchant clients more up on their own websites etc than me? How do I get that way, is there some kind of tutorial or course i can take! I have got the manual..... but like i said...... its kinda hard to follow instractuions when you have to stop and try to find out what that particular word means before you can go any further!!!

I have been running my website for a long time.... so I am very upset with myself that i am still so well, useless at it!:(

This problem typically occurs when ezimerchant is copied from one computer to another rather than installed on the new computer followed by the data being brought across. As long as it was copied to the default directory C:\Program Files\ezimercpro, the easiest way to recover is to download and install the trail over the top. There is no risk of any data loss except if any changes have been made to the standard themes (which whould not have happened because changes should always be made to copies).
