Hi,

Yahoo! makes one believe that it is an absolute necessity to use their $495 express site listing service if you have a commercial site. Is this true? Does this mean that if you do not pay the fee, then your site won't be listed under the normal Yahoo! categories and/or be included in the search engine?

This may sound stupid, but I figured I just better ask some others' advice before I look at spending that kind of money for something that will be free in the short-long run.

Thanks,
Scott

Hi Scott

(Nice website)

We haven't paid for any search engine submissions at all.

One of our main keywords is obviously "tradingcards"

Currently our site is ranked #1 on both Yahoo.com and .au

Most of the other search engines have us on page 1 in the top listings 3 except Google.

Our Google ranking started on Page 3 position 30 its now Page 3 position 28. Hasn't moved in months.

Hope this helps

Craig

Hi Scott,

Years ago I joined Yahoo when it was a one-off fee of $299... (forever) -ahhh. The good old days. $495 seems a bit steep year in year out, I don't think it's worth it. Recently, I found another way to get top rankings at Yahoo. Its through Overture (Australia) through their pay-per-click advertising system. I wrote a short article about it a while ago, you can find it at http://www.potted.com.au/overture_australia.htm - Overture's pretty good because you can also find your site at the top of the rankings at nineMSN, Ozemail, AltaVista & Anzwers with just the one campaign through Overture and often paying very little per click.

I hope this helps.
