I, like many other merchants have received chargebacks from the banks for fraudulent credit card transactions. I have found a way that really helps in sorting out the possible fraudulent ones. As the IP number i listed on the order use this to check details at this website http://www.all-nettools.com/ then under network tools check that the IP address is in the country where you have received the order from. Also under the phone and address tab check the order name and address there, also the reverse phone search is a good idea too. I check the IP for all orders and have saved myself quite a few dollars in bank chargebacks. If I suspect an order is fraudulent, I just refund the order immediately. If I am unsure I send an email stating that our system has detected some anomalities in their order and ask for an explanation or copies of the credit card and additional ID. I hope this helps other merchants and I would be interested to hear if others have received chargmeacks from the banks for fraudulent transactions.

I too have experienced quite a few fraudulent transactions..I rely on checking supplied customer details ""if it looks suspect"" with the online white pages to see if supplied info matches .7 times out of ten the details are there,of course many people have silent ph numbers in which case it would not help.I have rarely had any chargebacks from local Australian orders (maybe ive been lucky). Some literature i have seen from my bank advises that in almost all cases of credit card fraud the merchant had a bad feeling about the transaction..So i guess you need to do your best to verify that the order is genuine and if your still concerned dont process it.

Hi there,
We are from Australia and we too get the same situation. I many say not all people have their numbers listed on the white pages. If this is the case what aother things can we do to check if the customer is fradulent or not. Sometimes I ask to fax their credit card details and license, but some people get offended.
I sometimes do get bad feeling and walk away from the order. However, there was this one incident and I'm still corssing my fingers it wasn't a fradulent order... The customer placed an order and his number was a silent number. I asked if his number was listed in the white pages and he said it was under his wife's maiden name at that point i thought it was fair enough and released the order).
The next day he placed another order (both were approx $600-$800) then I got a bit suspicious. I had a bad feeling. So I decided to drop the order and wait if I get a charge back from the bank.
Please if possible if others could share your experience in handling with suspicious orders and what's your process for verifying customers.

Many thanks
Regards
Annie
