I thought it would be a good idea if the data contained in the shop including pictures could be exported to make a catalogue, this would be good for marketing to the public who do not have a computer

you can do this by creating a new theme and simply printing the output
the frames theme would likely be a good start.

I have done just that with my site - made a pdf file of the build folder using Adobe 7 standard.
Once in pdf format you can supply customers with CD catalogues for off line viewing or own printing, or do as I did and hand the pdf file to a printer to produce a catalogue.
adobe allows you to edit and remove unwanted pages without having to worry about them in the build folder first. This works perfectly, however it will obviously display exactly as it does on the internet with the headers, footers, and side categories, etc.
i've even downloaded my pdf file to my pocket pc to enable ease of showing customers product info when out rep-ing
