Canadian Payment Gateways

I am presently using ezimerchant pro and would like to be able to process visa payment over the internet in real time. It seems however that the only options for automatic visa processing are all located in Australia. Are any of your current services able to handle North American transactions? Do I have to set up an account with a recognized Australian bank? What are the steps required to be able to accept credit cards? I was also wondering if Ezimerchant can be easily modified to handle PayPal payment processing?
