Does anyone know if it is worth getting listed with Yahoo in their shopping directory listings?
It used to be free (like almost everything on the internet) but now costs ~ 300 USD to be listed. Provided they accept your listing submission (the 300 USD is non-refundable, if they don't like your site).

My reason for being listed would be to add credibility to our site, as well as getting more traffic. I would also expect that such a listing would significantly boost our site ranking position on search engines - which is what we are currently focusing our effort on.

Can anyone let me know if they think it is worth being listed - and if it will help boost search rankings?

another way to improve your exposure is to sign up with truelocal.com.au

it costs $40/50ish per month for the priority listing but will get you a complete listing, of all the business details and a priority on the order it is displayed, in truelocal,

You can also get a listing in your local community rag that has the truelocal classifieds. Its the "leader" in victoria and has other names in other states of australia.

it used to get you also a listing in the yahoo australian directory but now it has been bought out by someone else.

as it is was owned/covered by the same media group "news limited"

another directory listing which all the search engines use for a basis of url lists is dmoz.org

hope this helps

there are quite a lot of directories out there that give a free listing to help promote your site. a new one is ugliifind.com.au. supposedly once you list in it, your business can get exposed on other websites too.

there is also whereis that is becoming more popular too.

cheers.

They charge 300$ and do not reveal results to webmasters.
ODP (DMOZ) permits bulk download of their dir content: http://rdf.dmoz.org
Yahoo dir does not give it.
Google uses dmoz and other engines and apps, and who can use Yahoo dir only Yahoo itself?
But it share in search market is constantly down.
If somebody knows where I can download full Yahoo dir content from?
I'll appreciate any help.

I typed in several important keywords to see which directory/review site comes up tops in google and then pay them not just because of word of mouth. That's for starters then add items that are not listed or have only one or two competitors listed. That way it is less shotgun.
