Hi guys,

A few things to bring up here, so bare with me.

1 ) when proceeding through checkout, if your order totals more than 20kg we have it set that you need to get a quote from the seller. we have only just realised this glitch, but if the customer is paying through paypal it continues through the process and does not stop them or advise them to wait for their email quote. this is rather serious, as it leaves open the option for customers to slip through and receive their items without paying for freight and it has also caused a few arguements with customers when we have then sent them a quote on frieght as they argue they have already paid and they should not have to now make an additional payment. Is there any way to fix this, so they can not proceed to paypal if the weight is over 20kg? we are looking at changing the setting to not be "receive quote if over 20kg" however for the mean time if theres any way to fix this it would be great.

2 ) is there any way to offer a friend calculation based on the contents of the customers shopping cart if they put in their post code? every day we receive emails.. "how much is postage" "why cant i see how much postage i'll be charged" etc.. the whinging is never ending. My customer said there should be some way that on the shopping cart page we could have a field for postcode so they can get a frieght quote as many customers are too lazy to fill in the fields on checkout to get to it, and many dont realise this can be done even if it is listed in the FAQ!

Thanks guys - sorry for this, my client is just finding a few things that they arn't happy with and have said that they feel they have a rather primative program, where other online stores feel so streamline. I have told them that without bringing up these issues they cant get fixed and i'm hoping they will remain happy enough to stay with the current software and not want me to redesign it in something else.. any idea of the official release of v4 yet?

have a great day!
Joanne

Hi Joanne

1. We will take a look at this. Im assuming your client is using the new PayPal express checkout option when this problem occurs?

2. Unfortunatly freight calculation is only possible once we know the destination postcode/country - which gets collected after proceeding to the checkout. The view cart page would benifit from a post code entry for frieght calculation, but its technically difficult.

Hi David,

yes we are using PayPal express - is this where the problem is? Please advise if we would be better off using the other method and what the difference in processing would be.

I understand the frieght calculator would be technical to put in to place, but would it not be a vital feature that could get customers to buy ezimerchant as its something everyones customers ask. We use the aus-post frieght calculator - is there anyway we can have a completely independent frieght calculator on the website? i know a lot of people on ebay have freight calculators but thats easy because its for one item.. do you know of any way we could integrate it into a standard page to give the customers some indication of postage costs? we do charge a $3.50 handling fee but it is stated in checkout.

Unfortunatly its not easy!

You could link to the aus post site, where the calculator is available for them to use, but they need to kow the total weight.
