Just an idea ... how about an option that lets you enforce a minimum spend for the use of a gift voucher. Example -- a $200 minimum spend required to use a $100 gift voucher; or a $100 minimum spend required to use a $50 gift voucher.

This way, aside from just giving out the gift vouchers, we are also encouraging customers to spend more ... and hopefully, increase income for the site.

ooh, I would think that a bit rude if i was the recipient of a gift voucher, that i then had to spend money!
Perhaps you need to use the promotional code for what you want to do?

I understand what you mean ... this is why I want it as an option. I want to distinguish between between gift vouchers given as a gift, and gift vouchers given by the company as a promotional item. For those given as a promotional item, I want to be able to enforce a minimum spend. Problem with using the Promotion Code is that the recipient can keep using it.

If that's the only thing stopping you, that they can use it again, delete/change the code as soon as it's used. I guess that if you're issuing alot it could get tedious, but if it only the odd one here and there it might work.

In the case where you want to offer a given amount off If the customer spends a minimum amount you would want to create a Promotion code - not a Gift Voucher.

A promotion code could be setup like this:

Spend a minimum of $200.00 and get $50.00 off. The promotion can be restricted to customers who enter the 'Promotion Code' at the checkout.

This would achieve exactly the result your after.
